F R E E R I C E   // Online Games Freerice is a 100% non-profit website that is owned by and supports the United Nations World Food Programme. It is another quiz-style game that helps you improve your vocabulary skills. Instead of answering word problems, you’re given a vocabulary word and then have to find its closest synonym out of four different words. The game starts out easy, but with 60 levels in total, it gets much harder as you go along.  What really makes Freerice different than other online games to practice English is that the company will donate 10 grains of rice to hungry families for every question that you answer right. So the more you play, the more you’re helping those in need.  Benefits in teaching:  A storehouse of information and relevant quizzes, Free Rice can be a way to yank kids into a variety of topics. The World Hunger category in particular could inspire kids to do more in-depth research. You could use the questions as jumping-off points

AdaptedMind Math

AdaptedMind Math I choose the AdaptedMind Math website to review this week. So, what the website is all about? AdaptedMind Math  is a website that teaches kids math through a series of lessons. It assembles about 60 lessons per grade (for grades one through six), each with a 20-question practice set, at least one video clip, and multiple worksheets. Upon login, kids take a pretest to generate a percentage of the curriculum-mastered number, and then move on to select any lesson in their grade, or any other grade if they wish. Kids earn cute visual badges and points toward mastery when they answer correctly and pop-up explanations when they make mistakes. Videos are about 85 percent from Khan Academy, with native videos (original content from AdaptedMind) making up the remaining 15 percent. You can assign lessons and register up to 35 students with email-free usernames and passwords. The student progress page mostly provides a summary of percentage correct for lessons and the total
